Lego machine gun
May 28, 2007. This month, I discovered Sebastian Dick's ultimate Lego chain machine gun on http://mocpages.com. Of course, I wanted to have my own lego machine rubber band gun and I started work. First, I checked the other Lego rubber band guns on the web to get some ideas. I built one of them and I found out that the control of the fire rate is the most difficult part of the job. I was surprised by the accuracy of these guns and I started to work on the control of the fire rate. My solution is the application of a wormwheel. This appeared to be the key to my own version of a lego machine rubber band gun.
The machine actually exists of 8 different guns, each gun can fire up to 8 rubber bands. It is possible to load more rubber bands by reducing the length of the gun, at the cost of the tension on the ruber bands. The assembly of 8 guns should be rotated manually until the gear at the rear of one of the guns makes contact with a smaller gear that can be driven by the motor. The motor is used to fire automatically and repeatedly. The motor can also help with loading the rubber bands by letting it drive in reverse.
I have made a videorecording by mounting my camera on a Lego supporting construction at the rear side of the gun.
My impression is that it works fine, but the feeling is probably not as with the real thing of Sebasting Dick.
This is a happy shooter.
22 July 2007. The gun attracted a lot of attention form the gaming friends of my son (19), and one of them offered me a bag full of rubber bands. This is the email that I have got from his Dutch company "Elastiek enzo" :
