LEGO Tristar step-wheel climber

last update: 19september 2002

This car is designed to step over little barriers by turning around the three-wheel-configuration if necessary. A differential coupling distributes  the power to the wheels and the three-wheel-frames.

The most difficult part was the construction of the tristar-wheels.. The basis idea was to exploit the star-like distribution of the 6 holes in the wheels and to use other parts for fixing axes that keep everthing together. The axis with the gear that drives the wheels can slip in or out if the wheel is not inside the construction of the climber.

The left and right views of the car show two different ways to realize the transmissions from the central axis to the worm-wheels.

The bottom and the top views show to put everything together.
